It was a rather hot day at Paper Bird Books when Susan Joy Lu and I launched our latest book, What Can I Get For Mother’s Day? We still had a fantastic time celebrating though – it’s always exciting to launch a new book!
What Can I Get For Mother’s Day? is all about a kid who is trying to find the perfect gift for Mum. I was inspired to write it by my own children and the enthusiasm they always have for gift-giving. Their imagination has no limits (even if their wallets do!).
It is no wonder Susan’s middle name is ‘Joy’ because she truly was a joy to work with on this project. Her illustrations are so beautiful and she captured the whimsical wackiness of my words perfectly, while also injecting so much colour and warmth.
Possibly my favourite thing about this book though is that it features artwork by both Susan’s kids and my own. See if you can spot it!
